Fitness for Duty Evaluations
Dr. Tearnan conducts Fitness for Duty Evaluations (FFD) for various companies and entities. The FFD is an objective, unbiased psychological assessment of employees to determine their ability to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of their job. The FFD is designed to protect the individual, co-workers, and the community at large. The FFD involves an extensive interview of the employee, review of records, objective testing using the MMPI and other instruments, and interview of collateral sources.
Pre-Employment Psychological Screenings
Dr. Tearnan performs Pre-Employment Psychological Screenings. This evaluation is part of the process of determining whether an applicant is suited for the position. It is not a determination of mental health. The psychological evaluation process always involves a set of written psychological tests. The tests used vary but most often one or more well established written tests will be given before the interview. The interview covers some of the same areas brought up in background investigations. For example, family background, work history, relationship history, and education are discussed. Also covered are issues such as job interest, career goals, personal stress and drinking habits.
Independent Medical Evaluations
Dr. Tearnan performs IME evaluations for various third parties and insurance carriers, including workmen’s compensation. These evaluations are an objective assessment of an individual’s psychological functioning and involve psychometric testing, usually to include the MMPI-2 or other personality assessment. Dr. Tearnan also conducts a specialized IME for individuals with chronic pain to determine not only psychological functioning but also pain-related disability.
